Gold prices hit record high, jump Tk6,299 per bhori
Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged to a record high, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raising prices by Tk 6,299 per bhori less than 24 hours after a brief reduction.
Under the latest revision, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 255,617 per bhori (11.664 grams)—the highest ever in the country’s history. The new rates came into effect from 12:15pm on Friday (January 23), BAJUS said in a statement.
The association cited changes in the local market price of acid gold (pure gold) and overall market conditions as reasons for the adjustment.
According to the revised price list, 21-carat gold is now priced at Tk 244,011 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 209,136, while gold under the traditional method is selling at Tk 171,869 per bhori.
BAJUS noted that the listed prices do not include 5 percent VAT mandated by the government and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by the association. Making charges may vary depending on the design and quality of jewellery.
On Thursday night, BAJUS had reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 3,149, setting it at Tk 249,318 per bhori, effective from Friday. However, that reduction lasted less than half a day before the latest hike was announced.
So far this year, gold prices in the domestic market have been adjusted 12 times, including nine increases and three cuts. In 2025, prices were revised a total of 93 times, with 64 hikes and 29 reductions.
Meanwhile, silver prices remain unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver stands at Tk 6,357 per bhori, 21-carat silver at Tk 6,065, 18-carat silver at Tk 5,190, and traditional silver at Tk 3,907 per bhori.
Silver prices have been revised eight times so far this year—five increases and three decreases. In 2025, silver prices were adjusted 13 times, including 10 hikes, according to BAJUS data.
