Leaders and activists of the Gano Odhikar Parishad staged a blockade at the capital’s Paltan intersection on Wednesday evening, pressing forward with three major demands: justice for the recent attack on party president Nurul Haque Nur, resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser, and a ban on political activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.

The protest began with a march from the party’s central office in Bijoynagar, winding through several city streets before culminating at Paltan. Demonstrators then occupied the intersection, chanting slogans and vowing to continue their movement until the demands are met.

As of 6:30 p.m, protesters remained on the road, disrupting traffic and drawing attention from passersby and media alike.

The demonstration follows a violent clash last Friday night in front of the Jatiya Party’s Kakrail office, where members of both parties reportedly engaged in confrontation. During the incident, law enforcement allegedly beat Nurul Haque Nur, leaving him seriously injured. General Secretary Rashed Khan and several others also sustained injuries.

Nur is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. According to party sources, the chief advisor has instructed that he be sent abroad for advanced medical care.

The Gono Odhikar Parishad has declared that their protest will continue until authorities respond to their demands.
