Government allocates Tk 4.60cr, 8,950 tonnes of rice for flood-hit people
The government has allocated Tk 4.60 crore in cash assistance and 8,950 metric tonnes of rice for people affected by recent floods, heavy rainfall and hill runoff across the country.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said the allocations were made in several phases between July 7 and July 12 and have been sent to the deputy commissioners of all 64 districts to support ongoing humanitarian relief efforts.
Confirming the allocation, the ministry's Senior Information Officer Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman said the worst-hit districts are Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Moulvibazar and Habiganj.
These seven districts have received a combined Tk 1.75 crore and 3,250 metric tonnes of rice under special emergency allocations. The remaining 57 districts have been allocated Tk 2.85 crore and 5,700 metric tonnes of rice as part of the government's nationwide humanitarian assistance programme.
Among all districts, Chattogram received the largest allocation, totaling Tk 65 lakh and 1,200 metric tonnes of rice.
The assistance was released in four phases, including Tk 25 lakh and 500 metric tonnes of rice in the latest allocation on July 12.
According to the ministry, Cox's Bazar received Tk 30 lakh and 450 metric tonnes of rice, while Khagrachhari was allocated Tk 20 lakh and 400 metric tonnes. Rangamati received Tk 25 lakh and 500 metric tonnes, including an additional Tk 5 lakh and 100 metric tonnes of rice in the latest phase.
Meanwhile, Bandarban was allocated Tk 20 lakh and 400 metric tonnes of rice, Moulvibazar received Tk 10 lakh and 200 metric tonnes, while Habiganj was provided Tk 5 lakh and 100 metric tonnes of rice.
The ministry said each of the remaining 57 districts has been allocated Tk 5 lakh and 100 metric tonnes of rice. Distribution of relief materials has already begun through local administrations and district disaster management committees to ensure assistance reaches affected families as quickly as possible.
