Government appoints administrators to three district councils

The government has appointed administrators to the Zila Parishads (district councils) of Sirajganj, Chuadanga and Satkhira, according to a notification issued by the Local Government Division on Thursday (June 4).

The appointed officials will serve in their respective roles until elected district councils are formed or until further government instructions, the notification said.

According to the order, Md Saiful Islam has been appointed administrator of Sirajganj Zila Parishad, Md Sharifuzzaman of Chuadanga Zila Parishad, and Md Habibul Islam Habib of Satkhira Zila Parishad.

The Local Government Division said the appointments were made under Section 82A(1) of the Zila Parishad (Amendment) Act, 2026, which allows for interim administrative arrangements in the absence of elected councils.

Under the same provision, the administrators will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the respective chairpersons and will be entitled to allowances and other benefits as per existing rules.

Officials said the move aims to ensure continuity of administrative operations and public service delivery at the district council level until new elected bodies are constituted.
