President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said healthcare is one of the fundamental rights of people. Under the 'Health for All' policy, the government is committed to ensuring universal health protection, he said in a message on Monday, April 6, ahead of World Health Day on April 7.

The president said the government is working to ensure healthcare for every citizen with respect and dignity. To this end, initiatives have been taken to introduce electronic health (e-Health) cards for everyone to build a basic patient identification infrastructure.

He expressed happiness that World Health Day is being observed with due dignity in Bangladesh and various countries worldwide. This year's theme, 'Science in healthcare, protecting all lives' is highly significant according to the demands of the time.

The president further said the government is implementing various plans, including increasing budget allocation for the health sector, ensuring free quality primary healthcare, full medical care for mothers and children, strengthening disease prevention activities and raising health awareness.

He also emphasised building a corruption-free health sector, saying positive changes in the overall healthcare system will come through successful implementation of programmes, close monitoring and proper investment.

The president noted that people, animals and the environment are intertwined. Various negative impacts of modern civilisation are threatening the environment and biodiversity. Therefore, building a science-based integrated health protection system is the need of the hour.

He called upon government and private doctors, researchers, environmentalists and all concerned stakeholders to work together.

The president concluded by wishing success for all programmes undertaken on the occasion of World Health Day 2026.
