Government committed to fulfilling people's goals and aspirations: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the current government is firmly committed to fulfilling the goals and aspirations of those who sacrificed and suffered in Bangladesh's democratic movements.

He said the government will continue its utmost efforts to realise the dreams and expectations of those who made sacrifices—from the great Liberation War of 1971 to various democratic movements over the years and the most recent July uprising.

The Prime Minister made these remarks at a programme on Saturday afternoon (August 29) at the Karobi Hall of the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, where appointment letters for jobs were handed over to members of families affected by the July uprising.

He said the current government is fully committed to fulfilling the expectations and aspirations of the martyrs and victims of Bangladesh's democratic movements. The Prime Minister acknowledged that due to various realities, it is not always possible to do everything quickly, but the government's utmost efforts would continue.

Tarique Rahman said the government would always stand by the families affected by the July uprising. He noted that despite limited resources, the government would make every effort to support these families. "The irreparable loss you have suffered can never be compensated. Still, we were with you, we are with you, and we will be with you in the future," he said.

In an emotional voice, the Prime Minister said, "Today's programme is extremely painful for us. We are remembering people who should have been among us today. But sadly, they are no longer with us."

He said their sacrifices freed the people of the country from a fascist regime. He called for prayers for those who are no longer with us, adding that only Allah knows where they are and in what state.

Addressing those injured and affected by the July uprising, he said the government would do its utmost to realise the goals and objectives of those who made great sacrifices and suffered physically for the country.

"Those who made great sacrifices to achieve something big are no longer with us," the Prime Minister said. "To those who remain, I say—you have made the ultimate sacrifice for the people of this country and have suffered physically in various ways. The current government will make its utmost effort to realise the goal for which you risked your lives."

Referring to the sacrifices of the struggle as the core inspiration for the government's work, the Prime Minister said: "Because of your sacrifices, support and cooperation, the government finds the courage to work with full vigour. You are the source of our strength and inspiration."

Family members of those affected by the July uprising spoke at the event and shared their feelings with the Prime Minister. Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, PM's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, PM's Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, and senior officials of the Prime Minister's Office were present.
