Government considering permanent prosecution service: Law Minister
The government is actively considering the formation of a permanent prosecution service to conduct casGovernment considering permanent prosecution service: Law Ministeres on behalf of the state, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said. The government has already started working on it, and efforts are underway to create a structural framework.
The minister was speaking to journalists after a session on the Ministry of Law at the Deputy Commissioners' Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Sunday, May 3 .
Currently, the appointment of Public Prosecutors (PPs) depends largely on political considerations. There is no mandatory examination for the post, nor is there a fixed tenure for them . Once the proposed permanent prosecution service is introduced, a competitive examination will be introduced to assess qualifications, and prosecutors will receive permanent appointments, along with fixed salaries and allowances .
In 2017, during a DC conference, the then law minister Anisul Haque had announced a policy decision to form an independent prosecution service .
The four-day DC conference began on Sunday. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said at the inaugural session that the government would not compromise on corruption .
The law minister also said that deputy commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to inform the ministry directly about any specific allegations of corruption, irregularities, or misconduct in departments under the Ministry of Law .
Regarding delays in processing files related to state property, the minister said, "I have asked them to ensure that files are not delayed." He also sought advice from DCs on how to reduce the case backlog in the future .
When asked if a separate helpline would be introduced for lodging complaints, the law minister said no separate helpline was needed, as coordination already exists between government departments .
