Government employees to get consecutive five days holiday for Durga Puja

An additional day has been included in the government holiday list on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. With the declaration of a government holiday through an executive order on Thursday (October 22), government officers and employees will get consecutive five days’ leave from October 20 to 24.

Dr. Saleh Shibli, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, has confirmed the approval of the holiday for October 22 through an executive order on Tuesday, Jugantor reported.

According to the government’s previously announced holiday list, Tuesday (October 20) is a government holiday on the occasion of Maha Navami of Durga Puja and Wednesday (October 21) on the occasion of Bijoya Dashami. With the addition of the holiday on Thursday (October 22), the Puja holidays are becoming three days.

Thereafter, Friday (October 23) and Saturday (October 24) are weekly holidays. As a result, consecutive five days’ leave has been created for government officers and employees from Tuesday (October 20) to Saturday (October 24).

Consequently, government officers and employees will not need to take separate leave centering on Durga Puja this time. The holiday will begin on October 20 and end on October 24.

This year, the formalities of Durga Puja will begin with Mahalaya on October 10. Thereafter, Maha Shashthi will be observed on October 16, Maha Saptami on October 18, Maha Ashtami on October 19, Maha Navami on October 20 and Bijoya Dashami on October 21.

Besides the institutions under government holidays, the impact will also fall on banks, financial institutions and other organisations as per the relevant rules. However, those associated with emergency and essential services will have to perform duties according to the decision of the authorities.
