Government employees will get Tk 3000 monthly allowance for special-needs children

Government employees will get three thousand Tk allowance per month if they have special needs children. One government employee can take this benefit for a maximum of two children. That means if two children have special needs a total of six thousand Tk allowance can be received per month. However even if there are more than two children this benefit will be applicable only for a maximum of two children.

This benefit has been mentioned in the gazette of ‘Service (Pay-Allowances) Order, 2026’ published from the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance on Saturday (September 19).

According to the gazette, multiple government allowances for special needs children cannot be taken together. This allowance will be given to the bank account of the mother or father of the special needs or disabled child.

About 24 lakh government officers-employees and one and a quarter lakh pensioners will get benefits under the ninth pay scale. However there is currently no specific information on how many government employees have special needs children. Initiative is being taken to include information related to this in the integrated budget and accounting management software of the Finance Division.

Officials of the Ministry of Finance say families have additional expenses for treatment, education, therapy and care of special needs children. This new allowance will help meet a part of that expense.

However what conditions will have to be fulfilled to get this benefit, what type of certificate or document will be needed for recognition as a special needs child and how to apply to get the allowance—these matters will be determined through the rules and process of the concerned department.
