Government fixes monthly honorarium for religious institution workers

The government has decided to introduce a monthly honorarium and training-based welfare scheme for imams, muazzins, khadem of mosques and individuals working in other places of worship. This will be effective from March 14.

The welfare scheme for mosque imams and muazzins was announced at a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday, March 8, by the convener of the formed cell and Adviser to the Prime Minister Md Ismail Zabiuallah. Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad was present at the time.

According to the new system, mosque imams will receive Tk 5,000, muazzins Tk 3,000, and khadem Tk 2,000.

Among other places of worship, temple priests will receive Tk 5,000 and sebayets Tk 3,000.

In Buddhist temples, principals will receive Tk 5,000 and vice-principals Tk 3,000, while church priests will receive Tk 5,000 and assistant priests Tk 3,000.

It has been informed that Tk 10,000 will be allocated for mosques, and Tk 8,000 each for temples, Buddhist temples and churches.
