Government is not giving importance to comments from other countries: Shama Obaed
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said that what other countries said about the killing of Inqilab Manch's Sharif Osman Hadi is not a matter of taking into account.
She made this statement at a briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (June 3).
Shama Obaed said that the comments of any person or leader of any other country on the killing of Hadi are not a matter for Bangladesh to take into account. The government is committed to ensuring justice in this incident.
When attention was drawn to the recent comments of West Bengal former chief minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the killing of Hadi, the State Minister said that the judicial and investigation process in Bangladesh is moving forward at its own pace. The government is not giving importance to any comments from other countries.
She said that Bangladesh is determined to ensure a fair investigation and trial of the Hadi killing.
Shama Obaed also spoke about the election of Dr. Khalilur Rahman as the President of the United Nations General Assembly in the briefing. She said that this is a great achievement of pride for Bangladesh and a reflection of the international community's trust in the country.
The State Minister also said, Dr. Khalilur Rahman's election is being considered as a recognition of Bangladesh's democratic progress and international status. She also commented that Bangladesh's acceptance and credibility have increased not only with the United Nations but also with the world community.
Meanwhile, regarding the Prime Minister's first foreign visit, Shama Obaed said that invitations to visit have come from various countries. However, the decision on which country he will choose for his first visit is a matter of the Prime Minister's own discretion.
