Government is taking action to stop mob violence: Environment Adviser
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has claimed that the interim government has taken a tough stance against mob violence.
She said that the government is not only making statements to stop mobs, but action is also being taken against those involved in it.
The environment advisor said this at a view-exchange meeting titled 'Review of the Media Reform Commission Report' organized by the Broadcast Journalist Center (BJC) at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.
At the time, Syeda Rizwana Hasan commented that objective and accountable media is essential in the national interest.
She said: "Objective media is a demand of the interim government. The media must create a place of accountability in the national interest."
The environment adviser said that the media must be objective and accountable in the interest of democracy. At the same time, she highlighted the importance of ethics, responsibility and public trust in the media.
Stating that the government has already formed a committee to implement the recommendations of the Media Reform Commission, Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that this committee has five advisers who are not only reviewing the recommendations of this commission but also reviewing various related issues.
The environmental adviser said that the government has formed a separate media commission because it views the freedom of the media with great importance. Work is underway to prepare a summary of the recommendations and a roadmap for implementation.
Sara Hossain, Executive Director of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), Ilias Hossain, Member Secretary of BJC, and Md. Al Mamun, Country Director of BBC Media Action, also spoke at the event chaired by BJC Trustee Sayed Ahmed. BJC Executive Member Golam Parvez Reza presented the keynote speech at the meeting.
