Government is taking steps in light of interim government’s white paper: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the current government is taking steps in the light of the white paper prepared by the interim government on the corruption of the past 17 years. He informed the parliament of this while replying to a supplementary question from Cumilla-10 MP Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan during the Prime Minister’s question-answer session in the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday (September 9).

He said, ‘The interim government had formed a committee and that committee published a white paper or this kind of report-white paper before the people of the entire country. Among various issues, the issue of the economy was significant there. If you take out that paper and look, you will get a more or less clear picture.’

He said, ‘The current government is trying to take the steps that should be taken phase by phase keeping that paper in front.’

In reply to a question related to the extension of project tenure and cost escalation, the Prime Minister said, ‘Extension of tenure and increase in cost in government development projects in the country usually do not happen for a single reason. Multiple weaknesses related to project formulation, approval, land acquisition, financing, procurement process and management are interlinked and create this problem. After the tendency of extension of project tenure and cost increase came to the notice of the current government, various steps have been taken in this regard.’
