Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has said that the government has taken effective initiatives to stop the culture of disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

He said that the government is working to ensure human rights protection and illegal arrests and litigation have already been brought under control to a large extent.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled 'Rights, Justice and Implementation for All Women and Girls' on the occasion of International Women's Day 2026 at the Bijoy Sarani Military Museum Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (March 10). The seminar was organized by the Manusher Jonna Foundation.

The Law Minister said that the government is working with utmost importance on the welfare of the people, human rights and women's rights. To this end, the family card issuance program has been launched at the national level within just 21 days of the current government taking office. Initially, about 37,000 family cards have been issued, which are given in the name of the housewife or female member of the family.

The Law Minister mentioned that women are becoming targets of fundamentalists in the country, so it is very important to make women aware. Women are being made aware through various government initiatives, which will provide Bangladesh with a strong foundation to move forward.

Giving the example of his two daughters, he said that according to the provisions of Sharia law, the entire share of his acquired wealth will not go to his daughters, so alternative legal measures are needed.

Regarding the control of illegal arrests and false cases, he said that the problem has been brought under control to a large extent through the government's initiatives, but it is possible to reduce it further with everyone's cooperation.

Urging civil society to play a role as a watchdog in preventing corruption, he said that in the last 16 years, 234 billion dollars have been laundered abroad, which has been spent on 'Begum Para', 'Second Home' and various resorts abroad.

The Law Minister expressed hope that if money laundering abroad is stopped and it is done by making women self-reliant within the country, awareness about their rights will increase. This will also keep women safe from being targeted by fundamentalists and the establishment of their rights will be strengthened.
