Government launches publicity drive to increase technical education admissions
The Directorate of Technical Education has directed authorities to conduct nationwide promotional campaigns to increase student enrolment in technical education. To raise public awareness about admission procedures at government technical institutions and highlight the benefits of technical education, measures have been ordered including distributing leaflets, installing banners and posters, conducting mic-ing campaigns in public places, markets and neighbouring educational institutions, and promoting videos on social media.
A circular was recently issued by Branch-2 of the Directorate of Technical Education, directing the government technical institutions under its purview to undertake necessary and effective promotional activities.
The circular stated that admission processes have begun for the 2026-2027 academic year at government technical institutions for four-year Diploma in Engineering programmes, two-year HSC (Vocational) and HSC (Business Management and Technology) programmes. Additionally, students are admitted at various times to SSC (Vocational), Pre-Vocational (classes VI to VIII) and various short-term courses.
According to the directorate, widespread publicity of these admission activities is required to raise public awareness about the expansion and benefits of technical education and to increase student enrolment.
Institutions have been instructed to distribute leaflets, install banners and posters, and conduct mic-ing campaigns at public places, markets and neighbouring educational institutions at district and upazila levels. Additionally, they have been asked to air TVCs and video documentaries on social media and undertake other effective promotional activities.
Regarding the expenses for the campaigns, the circular stated that these costs can be met from the allocated funds under the relevant economic code in the revenue budget or from the institutions' own funds, following existing financial rules and regulations.
