The government will bear the education costs of the two children of Mosharraf Hossain, a Bangladeshi migrant worker killed in a missile strike in Saudi Arabia.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Ariful Haque Chowdhury made the announcement on Friday.

After receiving Mosharraf’s body at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Ariful told reporters that the family would receive all financial support due under government rules, along with further assistance from the state.

He said: “We stood by expatriates during the wartime situation in the Middle East, we are with them now, and we will always remain by their side in the future,” he said. “The family of the deceased will be given the support they are entitled to under government policy.”

He added that the ministry would bear any additional financial assistance the family may need. He also said the government would extend maximum support to those wishing to return to their host countries once the war situation ends.

During the handover of the body to the family, Ariful handed over a cheque of Tk 50,000 for burial expenses. The family will also receive Tk 300,000 in financial assistance from the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board after Eid.

At the airport, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan said the government would provide every possible financial support to the victim’s family.

Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaid Islam said the government was working relentlessly to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates in Middle East countries affected by the war.
