The government is developing a modern, skill-based and internationally aligned national curriculum for 2028 aimed at producing globally competitive, creative and patriotic citizens, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Sunday (July 12).

Speaking at the inauguration of a workshop to finalize the framework of four new primary and secondary textbooks for the 2027 academic year at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha, Hajjaj said the upcoming education system would go beyond textbooks by integrating teacher guides, workbooks, remedial learning materials and video lessons to support learning both inside and outside the classroom.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has declared education the country's largest long-term investment, and the government is working to introduce a future-ready curriculum that meets international standards while equipping students with practical skills.

According to the state minister, the textbooks currently being developed are designed to align with the broader curriculum planned for 2028.

The new curriculum will move away from rote learning and place greater emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, creativity and moral values, while strengthening the connection between classroom learning and real-life application through increased practical education.

Hajjaj also highlighted the importance of cultural and sports education, saying both would play a vital role in the physical, mental and ethical development of students. Cultural education will help learners develop a deeper understanding of Bangladesh's history, heritage and national identity, while sports will foster discipline, leadership, cooperation and healthy lifestyles.

Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan attended the event as chief guest, while the state ministers for Culture and Youth and Sports were present as special guests. The programme was chaired by NCTB Chairman Prof. Mohammad Fakhrul Mowla.
