Government to buy fuel oil worth Tk 1,698 crore on urgent basis
The government has decided to purchase fuel oil worth Tk 1,698.21 crore to meet the country's emergency fuel needs amid the unstable geopolitical situation caused by the Iran-US-Israel war.
The approval was given at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, April 21, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The meeting approved fuel oil purchases under two separate proposals. In the first proposal, 50,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 25,000 metric tonnes of octane will be imported from DBS Trading House FZCO through direct procurement, costing Tk 1,023.61 crore. In the second proposal, 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel will be imported from Archer Energy LLC at a cost of Tk 674.60 crore.
Additionally, several other proposals were approved at the meeting. German company Fichtner GmbH & Co KG has been appointed as consultant for the Dhaka Wasa 'Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply' project. The contract, from September 2025 for a period of 24 months, is valued at Tk 96.95 crore. Approval was also given for the purchase of 3 crore pieces of Hessian bags from 19 establishments under 75 packages for the Department of Food, costing Tk 215.64 crore.
