The government has decided to lift the existing rationing system in fuel oil purchase. As a result, there will be no specific limit or obligation to buy oil for all types of vehicles.

Joint Secretary (Operation) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Monir Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the matter on Saturday (March 14).

He said, 'We hope that the rationing system in fuel oil will be lifted from tomorrow (March 15).'

After the US and Israel attacks on Iran, uncertainty arose regarding the movement of fuel-carrying ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This created panic among the general public about fuel oil in the country, and the government introduced a rationing system in the sale of fuel for vehicles across the country from March 6.

A maximum daily limit of 2 liters was set for motorcycles, and 20 to 25 liters for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and microbuses. In addition, there was a daily limit of 70 to 80 liters for pickups and local buses and 200 to 220 liters for long-distance buses, trucks, covered vans and container trucks.

Later, considering the concerns of ridesharing drivers, the limit for motorcycle fuel was increased from 2 liters to 5 liters. At the same time, the overall rationing rate was reduced from 25 percent to 15 percent.
