Government trying to cut spending on unnecessary sectors: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is trying to cut spending on unnecessary sectors. At the same time, he said expenditure in essential sectors will certainly be made.
He made these remarks at the National Revenue Conference at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday, August 18.
The Prime Minister said positive change will come in the country if everyone performs their respective duties properly. The government's goal is to move forward with everyone together.
He said honest and competent officials should be given more opportunities to work. The Prime Minister also said the issue of punishing revenue officials will be considered seriously.
The conference was jointly organised by the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance and the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Besides the Prime Minister, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and the Prime Minister's Adviser for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir also joined the event.
The conference will discuss various issues, including increasing revenue collection, making tax administration more effective, and ensuring revenue resources for the country's economy. There will also be an opportunity for an exchange of views with the Prime Minister.
