Government wants to bring Sheikh Hasina back for facing trial: Home Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the government wants to bring ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh legally so that she faces the ongoing trials against her.
He said this at a press conference organized on various contemporary issues including the Ramisa murder at the meeting room of the Home Ministry at the Secretariat on Thursday (May 21, 2026).
The Home Minister said: "We want her to face the trisls. A request has been made through the Foreign Ministry to bring her back through legal process. Communication has been made with India in this regard as per the agreement."
He also said that he is not aware of any new restrictions on the media coverage of Sheikh Hasina's statements. If there is no court ban, the media can broadcast it, but if there is a ban, it must be followed.
Responding to a question about India's internal political decisions and border issues, he said that this is India's own matter and the BGB is on alert on the Bangladesh border.
Regarding the murder of Ramisa, the Home Minister said that the accused was arrested within 24 hours of the incident and instructions have been given to proceed with the trial process by filing a charge sheet quickly.
He also said that initiatives have been taken to ensure speedy trial by preparing a list of various recent murders and crimes. At the same time, reforms in the law enforcement agencies are also underway.
