Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the government will not tolerate any form of corruption within the police force, warning that any officer found involved in misconduct or indiscipline would face strict action.

He made the remarks while addressing senior police officials during a directive session held at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office as part of Police Week 2026 on Monday (May 11).

Calling for professionalism and accountability, the minister urged police personnel to perform their duties while upholding human rights and maintaining public trust.

“To ensure greater transparency in police operations, traffic management and other activities, we plan to expand the use of body-worn cameras,” he said, adding that authorities aim to gradually introduce the technology across all operational levels to record investigations and field activities.

Referring to international policing standards, the minister reminded officers to follow the principle of minimum use of force in line with United Nations guidelines.

“Human rights issues are now extremely important. While combating crime and assisting prosecution teams, investigations must be conducted properly through strategic measures that uphold human rights,” he said.

The home minister also stressed the need to strengthen the capabilities of the Tourist Police Bangladesh to ensure better security for visitors.

Although acknowledging improvements, he said the country has yet to achieve its desired reputation in tourism safety, adding that protecting the country’s image requires coordinated efforts to attract more tourists and improve confidence in Bangladesh’s tourism sector.
