Government will not tolerate extremism, militancy in any form: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has firmly stated that the current government will not tolerate extremism or militancy in any form. He also emphasised the government's tough stance on controlling corruption.
The Prime Minister made these remarks in his concluding speech at the budget session of the National Parliament on Wednesday, July 15. He expressed confidence that the opposition party would fully cooperate with the government's position on this issue.
The Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament, Kayser Kamal, presided over the concluding session. Earlier, the Prime Minister answered various questions during the question-answer session.
In his concluding speech, Tarique Rahman said that during the autocratic regime, $16 billion was siphoned off from the country every year through corruption. Corruption is one of the main causes of all problems. The current government is determined to control corruption, whether by tying hands or tightening throats. The Prime Minister also spoke about transforming the law enforcement agencies into professional forces to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining national unity at all costs, the Prime Minister said, "There will be differences of opinion, but certainly not enmity. Instead of vengeance and retaliation, there will be justice. On the question of ensuring that Bangladesh never again falls under fascism or autocracy, the opposition and the ruling party in parliament... we firmly believe... the national unity we have will be maintained."
