Government will recruit 10,000 constables, 180 sergeants: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday announced that the government will recruit 10,000 police constables and fill 180 vacant sergeant posts as quickly as possible to strengthen law enforcement.

“We will appoint 10,000 more constables soon after receiving approval from Finance Ministry,” he told reporters after a cabinet meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat.

The minister said the 180 vacant sergeant positions would also be filled promptly as part of efforts to reinforce the police force.

He added that the recruitment process would be expedited to ensure the vacancies are addressed without delay.

In addition to constables and sergeants, sub-inspectors will be appointed, while assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) will be recruited through Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC), he said.

The home minister also said he has instructed authorities to reconstitute law and order committees at the upazila and district levels to further improve local security management.
