Government working to upgrade primary teachers to 9th grade: State minister

The government is working to upgrade the grade of government primary school teachers to the 9th grade, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.

He made the remarks while speaking during the general discussion on the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the National Parliament on Sunday, June 28.

The state minister said Rangpur-6 MP Maulana Nurul Amin had raised the issue of upgrading teachers from the current 13th grade to the 10th grade in parliament. "We are discussing the teachers' grade and working towards bringing them to the 9th grade," he said.

He further said a budget allocation of Tk 20,428 crore and 68 lakh has been made for teachers' salaries in the 2026-27 fiscal year. If teachers are upgraded to the 9th grade, an additional expenditure of Tk 1,500 to 2,000 will be required, for which necessary allocation has been included in the proposed budget.
