Govt announces 7-day Eid-ul-Azha holiday, offices to remain open on Saturday
The government has declared a seven-day general holiday for all government and private offices on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding this on Thursday, May 14.
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions will remain closed from Monday, May 25, to Sunday, May 31.
However, offices will remain open on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, before the holidays begin. Even though May 23 is a weekly holiday, government officials and employees will have to work on that day.
Emergency services will remain outside the purview of this holiday, including electricity, water, gas and fuel supply, fire service, port operations, telephone, internet and postal services, sanitation work, and healthcare-related services.
Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary directives regarding the operation of banks and financial institutions. The Supreme Court will provide guidance on the functioning of higher and lower courts.
For private industries and factories, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will take necessary measures in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.
Subject to moon sighting, Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be celebrated in the country on Thursday, May 28.
