Govt appoints administrators to five more city corporations

The government has appointed new administrators to Barishal, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Cumilla city corporations. The Local Government Division issued a notification regarding this on Saturday.

According to the notification, these administrators will perform their duties until the corporations are formed or until further instructions.

As per the appointments, Bilkis Akhtar Jahan Shirin has been assigned to Barishal City Corporation, Md Mahfuzur Rahman to Rajshahi City Corporation, Md Rukunuzzaman Rokon to Mymensingh City Corporation, Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury to Rangpur City Corporation, and Md Yusuf Molla to Cumilla City Corporation.

It has been learned that all the newly appointed administrators are local-level leaders of BNP.

Earlier on February 23, the government appointed administrators to six city corporations including Dhaka North and South. At that time, Md Abdus Salam was appointed administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, Md Shafiqul Islam Khan of Dhaka North, Nazrul Islam Manju of Khulna, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury of Sylhet, Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan of Narayanganj, and Md Shawkat Hossain of Gazipur.

With these, a total of 11 city corporations have been appointed administrators under the newly elected BNP government. Apart from this, currently only Chattogram City Corporation has a mayor serving by court order, BNP leader Shahadat Hossain.
