Govt appoints VCs to 11 public universities in single notification

The government has appointed new vice-chancellors to 11 public universities across the country in a single notification. Among them, 10 universities have been given new VCs, replacing the incumbents. The VC post at Pabna University of Science and Technology was already vacant.

The Ministry of Education's Secondary and Higher Education Division issued the notification on Thursday, May 14.

The universities receiving new VCs are: Barishal University, Cumilla University, Islamic University, National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Jamalpur University of Science and Technology, Mawlana Bhashani University of Science and Technology, Noakhali University of Science and Technology, Pabna University of Science and Technology, and Rangamati University of Science and Technology.

The newly appointed VCs are:

Barishal University: Professor Dr Md Mamun Or Rashid, Dean, Faculty of Oceanography, Patuakhali University of Science and Technology

Cumilla University: Professor Dr M M Shariful Karim, Department of English

Islamic University: Professor Dr A K M Matinur Rahman, Department of Public Administration

National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University: Dr Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Jamalpur University of Science and Technology

BUET: Professor (Grade-1) Dr Ekramul Haque, Department of Civil Engineering

DUET, Gazipur: Professor Dr Mohammad Iqbal, Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology

Jamalpur University of Science and Technology: Professor Dr Mohammad Amir Hossain Bhuiyan, Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University

Mawlana Bhashani University of Science and Technology: Professor Dr A B M Shahidul Islam, Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka

Noakhali University of Science and Technology: Professor Dr Golam Rabbany, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka

Pabna University of Science and Technology: Dr Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim, Professor (Soil Science), School of Agricultural and Rural Development, Bangladesh Open University, and Treasurer
