Govt approves import of 1,00,000 tonnes of diesel
The government has approved the import of 1,00,000 metric tonnes of EN590-10 ppm diesel to meet the country’s urgent fuel demand amid ongoing global market volatility.
The decision was taken at the 19th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, following a proposal from the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
According to the Finance Ministry, the diesel will be procured from Majeda Oil Company Limited through the direct procurement method under an international purchase arrangement.
Officials said the move comes in response to growing geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, which have disrupted global energy markets and raised concerns over supply stability.
The Energy Division noted that the decision aims to mitigate potential supply risks and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability in the domestic market.
The government expects the import to help stabilise energy supply and maintain market balance during a period of heightened global uncertainty.
