Govt approves legal reforms to strengthen election commission

The government has approved amendments to two laws proposed by the Election Commission (EC) in a bid to enhance the efficiency and dynamism of the commission’s activities.

The decision was announced on Thursday (September 19) during a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqur Alam confirmed the development.

He stated that the decision was taken at a meeting of the Advisory Council, presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Also present at the briefing were Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, and Senior Assistant Press Secretary, Foyez Ahammad.
