The government is committed to implementing the entire July Charter, and unnecessary politics should be avoided over it, Law Minister Asaduzzaman said while speaking in the National Parliament on Sunday, April 5.

The government's contribution to implementing the July Charter is not insignificant, and confusion should not be spread over the matter, the minister said. He noted that further discussions are needed on the implementation process. He also claimed that the BNP upholds every word of the July Charter, which prioritises constitutional amendment and reform.

On constitutional reform, he said proposals for change may come from political parties or the public, but they take final shape through legal processes via members of parliament. Article 142 of the constitution is followed in this regard.

The law minister further said the July Charter is rooted in 17 years of struggle and the sacrifices and suffering of countless people. He claimed the stories of hardship of nearly 60,000 BNP leaders and activists are also connected to this charter.

He warned that just as the 1971 Liberation War or the 1990 mass uprising cannot be denied, everyone must remain aware so that no one can deny the July Charter in the future.

Criticising the opposition, the law minister said attempts are being made to advance with ill intentions in the name of the July Charter. He also stressed that if the constitution achieved through the Liberation War is denied, the July Charter could also be questioned in the future.
