Govt extends Eid-ul-Fitr holiday by one day
The government has extended the official holiday for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr by one day, making it a seven-day break to facilitate smooth travel for the public.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Thursday (March 5) chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bibi Hazzaj confirmed the announcement to journalists after the meeting.
According to the government, an additional holiday will be observed on March 18, allowing public servants to begin their leave after office hours on March 16. With the Shab-e-Qadr holiday on March 17 (Tuesday), government employees will enjoy a continuous seven-day break.
Subject to moon sighting, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on March 21.
Previously, the holiday was scheduled from March 19 to 23, but the new arrangement extends the break from March 18 to 23.
