Govt extends special passport correction facility for expatriates by Dec 31

The government has extended by six months the special facility allowing Bangladeshi expatriates to correct information in their passports and apply for new or reissued passports. Under the latest decision, the facility will remain in effect until December 31, 2026.

The extension was announced in a notification issued on Tuesday (July 21) by the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The notification was signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nuruzzaman.

According to the notification, the decision was taken in the public interest to ensure uninterrupted passport services for Bangladeshis living abroad.

The extended facility enables expatriates to correct information such as name, date of birth, parents' names and other personal details before applying for a new passport or passport reissue within the stipulated timeframe.

The ministry noted that the previous order, issued on July 8, 2025, was scheduled to remain valid until June 30, 2026. The latest directive extends the validity by another six months, setting the new deadline at December 31, 2026.

The notification said the decision takes immediate effect, with all relevant authorities instructed to implement the order. Copies of the directive have been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Department of Immigration and Passports, Bangladesh missions abroad and other concerned agencies.
