Govt itself creating situation that may disrupt election: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the interim government, which the BNP has fully supported, is now creating a situation that may disrupt the upcoming election.
Speaking at the opening of a brief rally in front of the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka on Friday, November 7, marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day, he made the remarks.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “It is unfortunate that the interim government, which we have completely supported, has itself created a situation that may hinder the election. Now, some political parties and their alliances are pressing for a referendum. Let me make it very clear — they too are conspiring to obstruct the election.”
He further said, “We have already said that we accept the idea of a referendum, but it must be held on the day of the election. There is no logic in holding a separate referendum before the election. It will only waste time and a huge amount of money.”
The BNP rally began at 4 pm in front of the party’s Naya Paltan office. The procession started from Naya Paltan and ended in front of the Sonargaon Hotel, passing through Kakrail, Malibagh and Bangla Motor.
BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Dhaka North BNP Convener Aminul Haque also spoke at the rally. The event was conducted by BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
