Govt launches hotline, email to curb rumours and disinformation
The government has launched a dedicated hotline service to prevent rumours, misinformation and disinformation at national, institutional and individual levels. The information was confirmed in a post from the chief adviser’s verified Facebook page on Monday, January 5.
Citizens can now report complaints by calling 01308332592 or by emailing notify@ncsa.gov.bd.
On December 28, chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus instructed the National Cyber Security Agency to ensure full cyber security ahead of the upcoming national election and referendum during a meeting of the National Cyber Security Council.
At the meeting, Faiz Ahmed Taiyab, special assistant to the chief adviser for posts, telecommunications and information technology, said 35 organisations have already been designated as critical information infrastructure, with plans to include more key institutions for security reasons.
He warned that rumours and cybercrime could increase ahead of the election and stressed close coordination between the National Cyber Security Agency and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission to prevent such threats.
