Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman today said in Jatiya Sangsad that the government has taken effective steps to withdraw politically motivated harassment cases filed during the tenure of the previous Awami League government.

The minister said this today while replying to a written question placed by treasury bench member Md. Monowar Hossain from Magura-1 constituency.

He said the government is fully aware of the issue of withdrawing politically motivated cases filed with the intention of harassment during the previous Awami League regime and has already undertaken necessary measures in this regard.

He noted that earlier the interim government had formed a committee to review such cases, and based on its policy decision, no murder cases were withdrawn.

Asaduzzaman said the present government on March 5, 2026 constituted a four-member committees at the district level, led by deputy commissioners, to recommend withdrawal of politically motivated harassment cases.

Subsequently, on March 8, 2026, a six-member "central committee" headed by the Law Minister was formed to take final decisions based on the recommendations received from the district committees.

"The central committee is currently examining the recommendations and continuing the process of case withdrawal," he added.

The minister further said that if any individual, including Members of Parliament, applies through due process for withdrawal of politically motivated, false and harassment cases-including murder cases-the district and central committees will review those cases.

Necessary decisions will be taken if any case is found to have been filed for political harassment, he said.

Asaduzzaman reaffirmed that the government remains sincerely committed to ensuring justice and relief for victims of politically motivated harassment cases.
