The government is planning to introduce a 50 percent fare concession on metro rail services for persons with disabilities as part of broader efforts to improve accessibility and ensure equal opportunities for people with special needs, State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit has said.

He made the announcement at the inauguration of the CSF Centre, a rehabilitation facility for children with disabilities and cerebral palsy in the capital's Korail area on Saturday (June 27).

Speaking as the chief guest, the state minister said the government remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities through inclusive policies and targeted initiatives.

Dr. Muhit said the government is giving priority to ensuring equal access to education, healthcare and public services for people with special needs in budget planning and policymaking.

As part of that commitment, initiatives have been taken to establish specialised educational facilities for children with disabilities in every district, he added.

"Ensuring inclusion requires more than healthcare. Equal access to education, employment opportunities and public transportation is essential for integrating persons with disabilities into the mainstream of society," he said.

The announcement comes just days after the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges introduced a 25 percent fare concession on metro rail and train services for senior citizens and persons with physical disabilities, a benefit that took effect on June 25.
