Govt plans to introduce music education at school level: State Minister
The government has taken initiatives to introduce music education alongside the regular curriculum in primary and secondary level educational institutions across the country, said State Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after attending an event at Dhaka University on Tuesday, March 31.
The state minister said under the initiative of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, music education will be delivered to schools through cluster-based activities at the upazila level. Instructors will visit various educational institutions to conduct classes.
He further said a decision has already been taken to expand cultural activities at the school level in every district and upazila of the country. Music education will be given importance alongside academic education.
The state minister also informed about plans to organise regular competitions in the music sector, similar to those held in the sports sector.
Responding to a question regarding the cancellation of music teacher appointments at upazila and district levels, he said some institutions had music teachers in the past, but the system was not widespread. Some decisions made at that time may require reconsideration.
Regarding Pahela Baishakh celebrations, he said the government is working to further strengthen traditions and cultural values. Responding to a question about the renaming of 'Mangal Shobhajatra', he said, "There is no fundamental difference between Mangal Shobhajatra and Anondo Shobhajatra—both express joy."
He further said despite political differences, it is important to maintain coexistence and unity in society.
