Govt prioritising disposal of cases pending over five years: Law Minister
The government has taken initiatives to identify and expedite the disposal of cases pending for more than five years, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has told parliament.
The minister gave this information in a written reply to a question from reserved seat MP Sabikunnahar during the 20th sitting of the second session of the 13th National Parliament on Tuesday, July 7.
In his written reply, the law minister said, "Effective steps have been taken by the law and justice division to expedite the disposal of cases involving under-trial prisoners. In criminal cases, cognisance magistrates are regularly supervising investigation activities to ensure timely and proper completion of procedures such as scene visits, evidence collection and preservation, witness statements, and forensic and expert reports."
"Cases older than five years are being identified on a priority basis and initiatives have been taken for their speedy disposal," he added.
The minister also said that necessary directives are being issued through district law and order meetings and police-magistracy conferences to ensure speedy disposal of cases involving under-trial prisoners.
