Bus fares raised by 11 paisa per km
The government has announced a new bus fare structure across the country following an increase in fuel prices.
After a meeting with transport owners and workers, Road Transport Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said that bus fares in Dhaka and Chattogram have been increased by 11 paisa per kilometre on Thursday (April 23).
He added that the same rate of increase will also apply to inter-district bus services.
The minister said that it has been decided to increase the fare for long-distance vehicles between Dhaka and Chittagong by 11 paisa per kilometer.
The decision was finalized at a meeting held earlier in the day at the Secretariat conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Division. The meeting was chaired by the minister and attended by transport owners’ representatives, officials from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), and senior officials of the ministry.
Transport owners had initially proposed an increase of 22 paisa per kilometre, but the government settled on a lower adjustment after discussions.
