Govt revises banking hours amid energy crisis
The government has introduced new banking hours as part of a broader austerity package in response to the global energy crisis triggered by tensions in the Middle East.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday (April 2), Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said at a post-meeting briefing.
Under the revised schedule, banking transactions will be conducted from 9:00am to 3:00pm, while banks will remain open until 4:00pm to complete internal operations.
Currently, transactions run from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with internal work continuing until 6:00 pm.
The move is part of government efforts to reduce energy consumption and manage pressure on fuel supplies.
