Govt scraps 15,000 freedom fighters' video interviews
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has cancelled nearly 15,000 video interviews of freedom fighters conducted under a government project, officials said.
The ministry also decided that the contractor involved will not be paid, and the recorded videos will not be preserved.
Officials explained that a review found the videos failed to present the “accurate history” of the Liberation War, contained inconsistencies, and did not properly reflect the experiences of the veterans.
They warned that if released, the videos could create misleading impressions about the war among future generations.
The decision also nullifies the entire project, originally launched under the previous government at a cost of nearly Tk 50 crore. Initiated in 2022 during the Awami League administration, the project—titled “Birer Konthey Birgatha”—aimed to record and preserve the experiences of living freedom fighters for posterity.
