Govt seeks explanation over arrest of rickshaw puller in Dhanmondi

The Interim Government has summoned an explanation from the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station regarding the arrest of a rickshaw puller, Md. Azizur Rahman, who was detained from the Dhanmondi-32 area as a suspect in a case.

In a statement issued by the Press Wing of the Interim Government on Sunday, authorities questioned the basis on which Rahman was considered a suspect. The government has also directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to investigate whether there were any inconsistencies in the recent actions or statements made by the officer involved.

Furthermore, the statement mentioned that, in line with the recently amended Section 173(A) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the investigating officer has been instructed to submit a detailed report on Rahman’s alleged involvement in the case without delay.

The arrest has sparked discussions on potential misuse of authority and profiling, prompting the government’s call for accountability and transparency in law enforcement practices.
