Govt sets new price for sacrificial animal skins
The government has set new prices for sacrificial animal skins. In this, the price of salted cow skins has been increased by 2 taka per square foot and that of goat skins by 3 taka.
The new price list was announced at a press briefing at the Secretariat after a meeting to ensure proper management of sacrificial matters on Wednesday (May 13).
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir gave the briefing.
With the new price, the price of salted cow skins has been set at 62 to 67 taka per square foot inside Dhaka metropolis. Outside Dhaka, the price is 57 to 62 taka. Last year, the price was 60 to 65 taka in Dhaka and 55 to 60 taka outside Dhaka.
In addition, the price of goat skins has been set at 25 to 30 taka per square foot and the price of goat skins has been set at 22 to 25 taka.
The government said that salt supply will be ensured at the district and upazila levels to make the leather preservation and marketing system more effective. In addition, training is being provided to those concerned in leather processing so that leather is not wasted during the Qurbani season.
The Ministry of Commerce also said that law enforcement agencies will be kept on alert to protect the domestic leather industry and prevent illegal trafficking.
