Govt sorry, embarrassed over Radda Health Centre vandalism: Zahed

The government is sorry and embarrassed over the vandalism at Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur and allegations that several members of the ruling party were involved, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Information and Broadcasting Dr Zahed Ur Rahman said.

Speaking at a weekly briefing on the progress of government activities at the Press Information Department conference room in the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 29), Zahed said the government considers any violation of citizens’ rights or attack on individuals and public facilities a matter of serious concern.

“Whenever a citizen’s rights are violated, a facility is vandalised or someone is attacked, the government is sorry. Such incidents embarrass the government because ensuring citizens’ security is its responsibility,” he said.

Asked what action would be taken if members of the ruling party were found to have been involved in the incident, the adviser said anyone found responsible through the investigation would be brought to justice.

He said investigative reports by the media were important, but the police investigation would ultimately form the basis of any formal charge.

“If the police establish someone’s involvement and confirm their identity, action will also be taken against that person,” Zahed said.

He stressed that incidents of this nature can have serious consequences for people and said the state’s primary responsibility was to prevent crime. When a crime occurs, he added, authorities must ensure swift justice to prevent similar incidents in the future.
