Govt to buy 212 double cabin pickups for police

The government has decided to purchase 212 double cabin pickup trucks for the Bangladesh Police to strengthen law and order and enhance field-level operational activities. The total cost of the project is estimated at Tk 182.32 crore.

The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase at the Secretariat on Wednesday, June 10. Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting.

The proposal to purchase vehicles for police in the current 2025-26 fiscal year was submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the decision, the vehicles will be procured following the direct procurement method (DPM).

Under the approved plan, the 212 double cabin pickups will be supplied by Pragati Industries Limited. Approval has been given to execute the contract with the company for a total of Tk 182.32 crore.

Government sources said the vehicles are being purchased to enhance police capacity in patrol activities, crime suppression, rapid operations and emergency response across various areas of the country. The addition of new vehicles is expected to make police movement and response faster and more effective at the field level.
