Govt to buy 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved the proposal to import 35,000 metric tonnes (±10 percent) of MOP (Muriate of Potash) fertiliser from Russia to meet the demand in the country's agriculture sector.

The approval was given at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat on Thursday, August 6, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

According to meeting sources, the fertiliser will be imported under the third lot of the agreement signed between Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) at the state level.

The total cost for importing 35,000 metric tonnes (±10 percent) of MOP fertiliser will be Tk 168,29,07,187.50. The price per metric tonne of MOP fertiliser has been fixed at $388.55.

The meeting approved the name of Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) as the recommended bidder in the proposal.
