Govt to meet police personnel’s reasonable demands to build modern force: Home Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government will fulfill the reasonable demands of police personnel, subject to the state’s financial capacity, to build a modern and people-oriented police force.
Speaking at the “Prime Minister’s Special Welfare Meeting” during Police Week-2026 at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium on Sunday (May 10), he said the government is considering honourary promotions for police members retiring after long service without advancement. Under the proposal, constables, ASIs and SIs may receive honourary promotions before retirement based on performance and service records.
The minister also said authorities are considering overtime allowances for officers from inspector to constable ranks to improve morale and service quality. He added that police hospitals across the country would be modernized to ensure better healthcare facilities for force members.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the government is prioritizing the construction of police infrastructure and resolving accommodation shortages through land acquisition and increased funding.
Highlighting recent improvements in law and order, he said special drives against terrorism, extortion and drug trafficking are continuing. He also stressed the need for modern training to tackle cybercrime, online gambling and money laundering amid changing crime patterns.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the programme as chief guest, while senior police and government officials were also present.
