Govt to probe measles outbreak, vaccine shortage: Information Adviser
The government will form a probe committee comprising both national and international experts to investigate the recent measles outbreak and reported vaccine shortage, said Information Adviser Zahid Ur Rahman.
Speaking at a briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday (May 12), he said the inquiry will examine the overall situation, including causes of infection surge and any possible lapses in vaccine distribution and administration.
“A detailed investigation will be conducted into the measles outbreak and the current crisis. The matter has been discussed with the Prime Minister. An expert committee including local and international specialists will be formed,” he said.
He noted that more than 400 children have reportedly died due to measles, calling the situation “serious and alarming.” The committee, he added, will also look into whether there was any negligence in vaccine supply or delivery.
“If any wrongdoing is identified during the investigation, those responsible will face action,” he said, adding that the government will further strengthen healthcare facilities for measles treatment.
The adviser also said there is currently no fuel shortage in the country, and supply remains stable in line with national demand.
