Govt to purchase of 10,000 tonnes of lentils

The government has decided to purchase 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils at a price of Tk 95.40 per kg for sale through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). This will cost the government Tk 95.40 crore.

The government's procurement advisory committee meeting held on Wednesday (March 5) at the conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed approved the purchase of these pulses.

According to sources at the meeting, the price of 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils at a price of Tk 95.40 per kg from Sheikh Agro Food Industries will be Tk 95 crore 40 lakh.

It is worth noting that on February 4, in the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement, approval was given to purchase 10,000 tons of lentils (in 50 kg bags) locally through open tender in the fiscal year 2024-25, in view of the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce. The cost of purchasing 10,000 tons of lentils from Nabil Naba Foods Limited at 97.92 taka per kg is estimated at 97 crore 92 lakh taka.

It is learned that the target for purchasing lentils in the fiscal year 2024-25 is 2 lakh 88 thousand tons. So far, purchase agreements have been made for 1 lakh 32 thousand 950 tons. Now approval has been given to purchase another 10 thousand tons.
